Cairo, the War Dog On Osama Mission

by admin on July 16, 2011

Only one of the secret SEAL outfit has recently been identified: Cairo, a Belgian Malinois. Similar but smaller than a German Shepard, the dogs are trained to participate in parachute jumping, rappelling, and other specials ops endeavors. A muscular, working dog, from the AKC description, a Belgian Malinois is “Intelligent and trainable” and “possesses a strong desire to work and is happiest with regular activity and a job to do. ” They run twice as fast as a human, and their highly developed sense of smell is advantageous to detect bombs or humans in hiding.
Special canine gear is used in their line of duty: one article quoted that the K9 Storm Inc.’s top-of-the-line patented “canine tactical assault suits” prices out around $86,000. Check out this outfitter’s site to see a sampling of this high-tech equipment. CNN had a special report that details how the US military uses dogs in areas like Afghanistan. Just another affirmation of how wonderful dogs are.
